A Major League Baseball team’s offer of free Saturday-night game tickets in exchange for unwanted electronics is a big deal, both in terms of generating greater awareness about the need to dispose thoughtfully of computers, cell phones, and other equipment and strengthening the team’s ‘good community player’ image.
I applaud the Houston Astros (my hometown team) for doing such a thing — holding its first “e-cycling event” — this Saturday at Houston’s Minute Maid Park (formerly Enron Field, but I digress). Let’s hope that professional sports teams in other markets follow suit and hold similar large-scale awareness-raising events.
